Denys Shtilerman-Danilov: how the co-founder of Fire Point went as far as the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation in an attempt to regain citizenship

Co-founder of the company Fire Point Denys Shtilerman in the mid-to-late 2010s tried to restore his Russian citizenship.

This became known to the Anti-Corruption Action Center from the document (determination) of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation dated September 27, 2018.

The Anti-Corruption Action Center notes that in an interview with TV host Nataliya Moseichuk, Denys Shtilerman said that he was deprived of citizenship in the RF in 2016 «at the request of his ex-wife», because «he participated in the Maidan, always spoke negatively about the Russian authorities».

As told by the Anti-Corruption Action Center, in the court document Shtilerman also appears under the surname Danilov – under that surname he lived and conducted business in the RF. The determination of the Constitutional Court of the RF states that Danilov (aka Shtilerman) from September 1991 to August 1995 was registered in a Russian dormitory at his university.

He was first registered at his permanent place of residence in the RF in November 1999. He had a USSR citizen passport, which did not confirm the man’s citizenship (no document confirming belonging to RF citizenship was issued to him).

Danilov received an RF citizen passport in 2003. However, he did not declare his desire to acquire Russian citizenship. Taking this into account, the courts concluded that Danilov (aka Shtilerman) lacked Russian citizenship, and that the decision to annul documents identifying him as an RF citizen is lawful.

As told by the Anti-Corruption Action Center, Danilov went to challenge the deprivation of Russian citizenship and reached all the way to the Constitutional Court of the RF. But this court refused to consider his complaint, as it does not meet the requirements of the law.

«The fact that Shtilerman-Danilov everywhere tells that he was deprived of citizenship in Russia, but at the same time hides that he tried to restore this citizenship, raises questions: what else is Mr. Denys hiding from us? And which of his words can be believed», — stated the executive director of the Anti-Corruption Action Center Darya Kalenyuk.
